The Invisible Condom

“Bergeron’s concoction, which he calls an “invisible condom” consists of two components. This first is a polymer gel that is liquid at room temperature and a gel at body temperature. On insertion the liquid can seep into the smallest vaginal folds, then turns into a gel that forms a semi-solid physical barrier to infective agents. The second ingredient is a germ killer such as sodium lauryl sulfate, a soapy substance that dissolves viral membranes and pops them open. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a chemical relative of lauric acid, a compound found in coconut oil and mother’s milk, which is a known microbe killer.”
