Britney, sleep and Dell…

A long weekend, but some really, really cool stuff happening. Some little

stuff first:

  • In case I didn’t mention it, I got my ear pierced again the day before

Valentines day. My left one and that is the second ring in it. It is healing

    just fine.

  • According to my

software the 401st weblog entry of mine in this log.

  • I got to see

Kimiko teaching at the Dojo on Friday, she was giving out push-ups and

generally kicking ass and getting respect. Mad props to the lil’ bite with the

big bark! (look at me, all urban)

We got to move

Flagg into his new place. He lives about 9 blocks or so from

Tatsumi right now, still in my town but far enough away that he feels like

he is on his own now (hi honey!). A number of people who like being nice to him

for reasons I can’t fathom showed up and cleaned his new place, his room at

Tatsumis’ and her kitchen. We moved stuff from storage and got the refrigerator

from Tatsumis’ basement up to her kitchen to replace her dying one. She also

moved her bedroom.

The big news is that we had an opportunity (thanks to Tatsumi! She is

amazing!) to make an investment in the company and we took it. We ordered

two machines from

Dell, one that will become my workstation and one that will be handling the

majority of our 3D and DV rendering. The A/V machine has a DVD+RW, analog and

digital video capture ability and can do video encoding as well as rendering the

animations. If it blinks, flashes or makes noise we will be rendering it on that

box.

The machines are

Dimension 8200 based boxes but we customized ’em heavily, running a

Pentium 4 at 1.8 Ghz with

RDRAM. This will be a serious upgrade for me, my primary machine is still a

Pentium III at 500 Mhz. So this is going to be sweet. I will put a GeForce 4

in sometime soon and then all will be well – super frosty. And yes, I have very

good reasons for not going with an AMD processor.

We will have a render farm of 4

Celeron machines at around 600 Mhz to help out as well and for general use

as workstations. These are older machines we have here that we will be putting

into services and reloading as the two new boxes take up a lot of the strain of

day to day work for me. All of our machines will soon be running

Windows XP Professional.

Anyway, I’ll post more info on the emerging state of the systems here as I

get the chance.

Time to sleep now, but for your final thought here is the "A

to Z of Britney"!
