Gettin’ “Wiki” with it – BDSM, public definitions and my definitions…

Ed. Note: This entry is fairly long, and discusses some tech stuff and

some fairly odd stuff about BDSM and the lifestyle. No, there isn’t any sex

but it’s probably interesting anyway. Go ahead, click the [more] link if there

is one.

As some of you may know, one of my long time favorite things on the web is

Everything2. E2 has some really outstanding qualities that keep the

signal to noise ratio nice and high; primarily through community

moderation. One can put almost any phrase into E2 and come away with

something.

Well, there is a new kid in town. Some folks have built something they call

"The Wikipedia" that I will probably refer to as the WP from now on

if I wind up using it. It is based on something called a "Wiki" – a

system that basically allows for anyone to make changes to a page. I find

most Wiki software to be less mature than E2 but some of them have some

killer features. One of the best features of the a Wiki is that they often keep

a history of page changes.

Anyway, I went over there to look up some of the terms I know and am amused

by. I looked up BDSM, that led me to SSC and RACK as

well as Safeword. These entries, particularly RACK was… flawed. If

you’d like, you can see the

entry as it was from the history. In case it’s been edited, the entry I

changed it to is shown below:

RACK

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

RACK or Risk Aware Consensual Kink is a term that was

coined in reaction to current dissatisfaction within the

BDSM community regarding the political issues (internal and external)

surrounding

SSC. Specifically, RACK is intended to embrace

edgeplay and play that is engaged in without

safewords.

RACK is intended as a philosophy, and does not specifically refer to any

particular type of play or activity.

Note: This term is sometimes seen as Risk Accepted Consensual Kink.

Well, while I was at it I obviously had to add a reference to this entry to

SSC and fix the reference in BDSM. Fortunately, you can do that

sort of thing on a Wiki.

Anyway, I summarized the changes – and cross referenced between WP and

E2 in the following table. If you look at the history of these, you will see

that my entries are marked with "Soulhuntre" .. however the actual main edit

happened before I made the account so is only marked with my IP (68.36.123.21)
