Fitness, machinery and coolness…

Whew, that was a long day. I wound up going to every gym in 30 minute radius. I compared them on price, equipment, pool availability, hours and how much $$$ I needed to put down and so on. In the end, I didn’t go with any of them but I do want to mention Classic in Lyndhurst. This place is awesome and the people there were incredibly nice. If you need a gym in the area these are the people to see!

It started with the trip to Bally’s. I did that today because I couldn’t keep the appointment I mentioned. It was like showing up at a bad used car lot. The facilities aren’t bad but it took 45 minutes for them to tell me that the $19 down/$19 a month membership is so limited it’s useless, and that the least expensive plan they have of any value is more than $300 or so. Bite me and why couldn’t you just tell me that on the phone and save us all some trouble?!?

So the other clubs ran around $49 a month, and few of them had pools. Bally’s had a pool but it was so small it wasn’t worth it. Classic didn’t have a pool but I forgive them. What was a guy to do? How was I going to make this work?

crossbow!

Thinking it through, talking to Kimiko and remembering things Tatsumi had said to me it became clear that a gym wasn’t the answer. What was the answer is the elliptical machine you see in the picture. It was on sale for about $200 off at about $585 and will be delivered around 04/15/2004. Combined with the Crossbow I own and have been using (admittedly off and on) for the last year and I should be all set. My [[wp:dojo]] has two heavy bags and a decent treadmill, so while I am teaching I can get in a workout there as well.

This is pretty serious old school training. This is me and my new best friend (Arnold) who has already helped keep me on the path, getting together to make me the best I can be. My own program, my own schedule, no excuses and minimum $$$.

Gotta love it.
