CBS “dodgy” draft report…

On a political front, it looks like CBS is at it again. Biased reporting, using debunked information that they know is false and withholding critical information about their guests and sources. In other words, once again CBS has shown that they are part of the “anyone but Bush, by any means necessary” crowd. Of course they support Kerry, even though the most rabid leftists think he’s a loser ๐Ÿ™‚ The topic is the rumor of a draft. A rumor, I might add, started by the Kerry folks and others on the left.

For instance there is this tidbit:

“At the center of Schlesinger’s piece was a woman named Beverly Cocco, a Philadelphia woman who is “sick to my stomach” that her two sons might be drafted. In his report, Schlesinger claimed that Cocco was a Republican and portrayed her as an apolitical (even Republican) mom worried about the future.” – quote in context

Of course, they forgot to mention something that might be a little relevant…

“Schlesinger did not disclose that Cocco is a chapter president of an advocacy group called People Against the Draft (PAD) which, in addition to opposing any federal proscription, seeks to establish a “peaceful, rational foreign policy” by bringing all U.S. troops out of Iraq. Like Schlesinger’s Cocco, the group portrays itself as “nonpartisan”although its leadership seems to be entirely bereft of any Republicans.” – quote in context

Now, there are a few things about Kerry on this that are disturbing:

  • By promising that there would be no draft under his administration he seriously limits the pressure we can put on our enemies. A US draft is something that anyone opposing the US doesn’t want under any circumstances (it usually means we are about to kick serious ass) – knowing that one would not happen grants them wide latitude. That is, assuming Kerry can be expected to keep his promises.
  • We may actually need a draft. The war on terror is widening. Mark my words this is the next big struggle and will make the [[wp:cold war]] look like a walk in the park. The [[wp:Soviet Union]] was at least rational. The fanaticism that passes for thought and morality among our enemies this time is not so forgiving. This is a world wide struggle to the death between radically incompatible ideologies. They have been saying for decades that their goal was our total eradication – it’s time we returned the favor.
  • The left has, itself at times called for a draft. This is a classic case where the left tries to place the right in a impossible choice – and fails. They continually claim that the US military is unfairly comprised of minorities and the poor and implyt hat a draft is needed to balance this. The idea is that somehow the “hidden masters” they feel run things (they are victims to their core) will not allow their own children to go fight. The thing is, those of us on the right in this (foreign policy) usually volunteered ourselves for military service. Predictably, they then scream about a draft being bad.
  • Kerry has managed to so weaken our position that those he intends to beg for help have already stated they have no intention of providing troops.

You know, for a while I was on the fence on this one. The more desperate, shrill and insulting Kerry gets the more I realize that my gut instinct was right.

Kerry simply doesn’t have a f_cking clue how crucial this situation is.
