Lace me up… |
As you may remember I was big on the EVS Web a few days ago. My knees simply need more protection than my current brace (the McDavid PS II) can provide. Not that it isn’t a good brace, it is… but in a contact sport it simply is not going to protect me the way I need it too. By the way, I have a gallery of off the shelf armor available, including some cool customized EVS Webs.
I still like the thing, but fate may have intervened. See, the order didn’t happen fast enough and the price was wrong. The brace would have cost me $478 with shipping for one unit and I can get it on the web for $350 with overnight shipping – so I am going it alone and picking them up myself. While calling around for prices one of the men I spoke too mentioned I look into the Asterisk, so I did.
I was sucked into what may be one of the great conflicts of our day (excluding the [[e2n:385824|Emacs / Vi]] thing).
Pictured above you see the Asterisk Cell which is for all intents and purposes the only real competition to the EVS Web or perhaps I should say it the other way around because it seems a lot more folks use the Asterisk than the EVS. Now, the Asterisk Cell’s come as a pair for $550… so that’s a factor. There seem to be a few pro’s and con’s.
Pros:
- Price. At $550 for a pair the are cheaper than a pair of EVS Webs
- The lacing system – it looks cool and it sure seems like it would give a great fit
- The company is cool. Their customer service was good and they company itself does good things
- There are some good reviews
Cons:
- I dint think they look as secure or stiff at the actual joint as the EVS Web does
So we won’t know for sure till I try them on. Either one is going to be a damn site more protection than what I am wearing now.
