Know a man by knowing who his enemies are” – me

“The enemy of my enemy may or may not be my friend – but the friend of my enemy is definitely my enemy as well. Given who wants Kerry in, and why they want it… I think it is pretty important to thwart their plan.” – me

For a while, I thought maybe it was just well meaning people with passionate views stepping over the line. I thought to myself that since everyone feels so strongly that some bias is inevitable. Even when it became clear that Dan Rather and 60 minutes were as a group misusing their position as supposedly unbiased sources to try and influence the election I thought maybe it was still semi-isolated. And when CBS made another clearly biased decision…. I thought that maybe CBS was our biggest problem.

It isn’t. There is a deliberate attempt to manipulate this election in all the wrong ways and it is much bigger than media manipulation. I make that distinction because manipulating an election is common – we call it politics.

The threats to this election come from multiple sources, and we will explore them in separate posts… I’ll put the short list here. My evaluation of these threats is not intended to be complete… there are many other sources you need to follow to keep up on that. I want to remind you that these are threats specifically to the election, while some are also threats to our nation that is not what I am talking about.

  • Voter fraud and legal manipulation of the process – these things go together. At the moment voter registration in this nation is fucked, and is deliberately being used as a primary source of legal contention by the DNC.
  • Media fraud and manipulation – when a news source that claims objectivity deliberately manipulates or falsifies news accounts.
  • External institutional “diplomatic” hostility – the UN is, currently, a hostile entity in my mind. Both in whole and as a collection of individuals there are those in the UN who have decided to use their positions to manipulate and skew the internal political process of the US. That’s not inherently bad, but it does mark them as an enemy and remove any special protection the UN might enjoy. We should treat them as we would any other hostile government.
  • Overt military hostility – both by terrorist organizations and institutional bodies (government, UN, militia) both internal and abroad.

As I have seen the forces arrayed against President Bush I started looking at those people he has made so desperate for his removal… and then evaluated whether I think that is a good indicator of his desirability as our leader. I think it is, and I think he passes this version of the [[wp:global test]] Kerry is so fond of. Given the hostility of the UN and the reasons for it, I consider their view of Bush as an enemy a good sign.

The enemy of my enemy may or may not be my friend – but the friend of my enemy is definitely my enemy. Given who wants Kerry in, and why they want it… I think it is pretty important to thwart their plan. Especially it is important to slap the shit out of them for trying to manipulate our process. The UN has shown itself to be hostile and willing to meddle, breaking it’s own rules and ethical considerations to re-forge the US political will to its desires. I don’t blame them, but I refuse to condone it.
