Linux, starting to slide?

I’m not the first to say it – but it bears repeating. The quality of the core Linux OS has gone down, way down of late. Coupled with a radical change of development policy and Linux is at best now a fragmented train wreck and at worst has [[e2:jumped the shark]] though it will be years till most people know/admit it.

Serious instability, critical bugs, security issues are all coupled with a philosophy in the core development team that it is the responsibility of the distribution maintainers to patch, secure and stabilize the now unstable and insecure kernel. Gone now are the days when the core OS was intended to be stable and secure.

Don’t take my word for it, check out this post and then the reactions, and admissions, of the folks on /.
