I’ve been dabbling with online stock photography for a few months now, and thought i’d write up a summary of my experiences with 5 different “micro-stock” sites: iStockPhoto, Dreamstime, ShutterStock, BigStockPhoto and CanStockPhoto. Many people feel that by selling your work on a microstock site, you devalue yourself and perhaps the entire photography profession. Traditionally stock photographers earn around $100 per photo sale, so the notion of getting a few cents per sale is naturally shocking. Of course cheaper photos sell far more often so the numbers eventually start to add up.
