Seen on Slashdot – “For sale: WW II era French rifle. Never used, dropped only once.”
In the Battle for France of 1940 90,000 Frenchmen died defending their country and 200,000 were wounded.
During the whole war, 212000 Frenchmen died (1.35% of their population) compared to 407000 from the USA (0.32% of their population.)

And France declared war on Germany in defence of another country (Poland.) It did not wait until the Axis Powers declared war and only then fight.
Unlike the USA.
