In Philadelphia someone close to a good friend of mine has died in a horrible accident. You would think that such a incident would make everyone take a moment and step back. You would think that no one would try and use this sort of thing to further their own agenda, sell some books or try and gain advantage over those they disagree with.
You would be wrong.
The horror had not even sunk in completely before Jay Weisman took the opportunity to stage yet another performance of his one man show “breath play is bad and other fantasies”. This is part of a long running series of one man shows that feature a complete lack of understanding of both the medical realities of several BDSM activities but the legalities that surround the community as a whole.
Nor is Jay ignorant of the deep flaws in his information and his logic on these topics. For years it has been pointed out to him at great length and in great detail. His shoddy legal qualifications have been dissected, his incredibly weak medical knowledge flayed like sushi and his inability to articulate any support for his views laid bare.
Never mind all that though, you see you can sell a lot more books and get brought out to speak at a lot more events as chicken little than you can as the voice of reason. You are also perfectly places to capitalize on any tragedy that comes along.
Why let reality get in the way of a good sales pitch?
Can you tell I am pissed? I am. Anyway, here is my post, I will put it here just in case something happens to it on FetLife.
“It is sad that the instant a tragedy happens, someone will use it to further their own agenda and this is a perfect example.
So in response to a terrible tragedy, the details of which are unknown you went ahead and gave a presentation based on information that is inaccurate, inflammatory and ill informed. Unfortunately, due to the horror of this situation we will now have no end of people ascribing the weight of authority to your views.
I would say I am surprised, but sadly I am not. My first reaction on hearing about this was sympathy for my friend (who was very close to the female in question), the second was sympathy for the dominant who rightly realized he would be hounded, vilified and tormented for the incident and thus was driven to kill himself. Right after that though, sadly, I realized that it would be about 11 seconds before this tragedy was used to push inaccurate and inflammatory information.
Let’s be clear – intelligent, well reasoned caution and information based on medical facts and legal realities is a fantastic thing and we should all excursive it. Unfortunately that isn’t what has happened, what has happened is that extra moral weight has been given to a presentation that is none of those things. This thread is not the place for a long discussion of the fundamental flaws of the presentation in question and the decision bad logic that is behind it, there are plenty of places doing that quite well.
So while many others may hurry to offer their thanks that Jay would go ahead and try and help – frankly I offer nothing but scorn. I think it is unconscionable to use this tragedy to push such a deeply flawed and self serving presentation.” – Soulhuntre, posted to FetLife on 01.03.2009, about 15:30
Screw you Jay.
