The folks at A List Apart<\/a> have one of the most interesting and informative sites on trends in the web around. Design, technology, methodologies… all of it is covered. I don’t always agree, but there is always good information. The recent article I read<\/a> is no exception.<\/p>\n

“What the client sometimes doesn\u2019t understand is the less they talk to us, the better it is. We know what\u2019s best.\u201d – quote in context<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In “Usability experts are from Mars, graphic designers are from Venus<\/a>” they look in on the debate and continuing gulf between people who think the web is a textbook and those who think the web is a magazine. Does design matter? Is style ever part of the message instead of obscuring it? In short, is Flash ever a good idea?<\/a><\/p>\n

What interested me most was not the predictable semi-ranting of Jakob Nielsen<\/a> but rather the very existence of the design firm Kioken<\/a>. While I am not sure they are going to survive for long, think of the sheer balls<\/i><\/b> it takes to make the following statement:<\/p>\n

“We had to fire Sony<\/a> the other week. They weren\u2019t listening to us, so we let them go. We actually had to get rid of Bad Boy [Entertainment]<\/a> in the beginning, but they straightened up and came back. So did Sony. What the client sometimes doesn\u2019t understand is the less they talk to us, the better it is. We know what\u2019s best.\u201d – quote in context<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Go ahead and re-read that. I pulled that quote tot he top because it is so perfect in expressing the frustration everyone in my industry has felt at times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
