{"id":53516,"date":"2017-08-02T23:26:57","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T03:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mdrnsamurai.io\/?p=53516"},"modified":"2024-03-31T04:07:58","modified_gmt":"2024-03-31T09:07:58","slug":"the-mind-of-a-solo-tech-evangelist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/legacyiamsenseiken.local\/2017\/08\/02\/the-mind-of-a-solo-tech-evangelist\/","title":{"rendered":"The mind of a self-employed tech evangelist&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was describing what I am most passionate about the other day and the list looked like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeping up with constantly evolving tools and technologies.<\/li>\n<li>Exploring the new possibilities those tools open, and how they can make solving the older problems easier and more efficient.<\/li>\n<li>Helping folks who may not realize what those new tools can do for them see how to use them well.<\/li>\n<li>Prototyping stuff for others to dissect and learn from.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I do that every day for my clients at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ghostdogalpha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ghost Dog (Alpha)<\/a>. In fact, I have done that throughout my decades-long career. However, it is\u00a0<strong>only in the last few days that I realized what I have built is based around technical evangelism, not consulting<\/strong>. You can also see it in my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCCXkJEO5Uh5PeBEhAby4zrA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vlogs<\/a>; I just can&#8217;t get away from talking about\u00a0<em>why<\/em>\u00a0instead of just\u00a0<em>what\u00a0<\/em>I do what I do and how they can apply it to their lives.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I get pumped up every time I have a conversation with someone that includes the phrase &#8220;you know, what you really COULD do is ________________&#8221; and when it&#8217;s all over we&#8217;re all looking at the idea we shaped and thinking &#8220;wow, that&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>awesome<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When we have the right idea, then we build it.\u00a0<em>As much as I love watching these things come to life if I am honest? A large part of my brain is already longing for the next chance to innovate<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I am not alone in this, every great technologist I have met feels the same.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In effect, I am an evangelist without a (large) community. I have been shifting directions recently, working to build a business around inspiring and educating not as part of a consultancy pitch but for its own sake. It would be a blast to be able to spend each day working with devs and users to help them innovate and bring their dreams to life on a much larger scale.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ghostdogalpha.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">I will keep working on that<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you a solo evangelist?<\/strong>\u00a0I want to hear from you.
